Thursday, October 15, 2009 Mason Continues Championship Chase in Grand Canyon State
 by Shawn Stewart
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Dave Mason Jr. will continue his quest for the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing series Kart Modified Championship this weekend October 17-18 at the Speedworld Off Road Park in Surprise, Arizona. Piloting the #565 Eleven Western Builders HRT Kart Modified, Dave JR will enter rounds 9 and 10 of the 12-round series second in points at 348, just two points behind leader Sheldon Creed who has 350 points. Connor Hart follows Dave JR in third with 340 points.
Dave Jr’s last visit to the Speedworld Off Road Park in May brought a 2nd place and 4th place finish. It’s consistency that has paid off to this point in the season. Dave Jr. has all but one top five finish, most of which were podium finishes. But he’s yet to get a win in the 2009 Lucas Oil Series. That is what he and the Western Motorsports team will be in search of come this Saturday and Sunday in Arizona.
“I think it’s possible to win this championship without winning a race, but it will make it tough,” said Dave Jr. “Besides that’s what we come out here for is to win. We will always keep the championship in mind, but that’s what all racers want to do, win.”
“Our strategy will be the same as it’s been all year. Go out and have clean, consistent races,” added Dave Jr. “The only difference heading back to this event is that I learned some things as a driver from the May race and we learned a few things as a team. We’ll be ready. I can’t wait.”
