Jason Hamstra Back Home and Healthy After Violent Crash at ADRL World Finals

DEMOTTE, Ind. -- While competing in a semi-final round of the ADRL Speedtech Battle of the Belts Final at the Texas Motorplex over the weekend, Pro Extreme star Jason Hamstra lost control of his 1968 Camaro near the eighth-mile finish and crashed heavily into the retaining wall.

Hamstra, 22, had posted a 3.78-second, 203.46 pass before the incident.

After the crash, he was transported via helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for observation, and Sunday was home recuperating. Other than some minor bruises, the young racer received no injuries.

'He's doing well,' stated Karen Hamstra, Jason's mother. 'He came out of the ordeal in good shape, not even a concussion.'

Karen went on to say that the car is equipped with the latest and best in safety equipment, and was invaluable during the Friday evening Speedtech Battle for the Belts session.

'We've got the latest in safety equipment,' she said, 'and it did its stuff.'

Karen was also grateful for the help provided right after the crash, with many coming to the aid of Jason.

'I want to thank everybody that helped. I would like to especially thank Kenny Doak. He just jumped right in there and helped us, continued Karen. We also want to thank EMS attendants, the fire fighters, the ADRL and Texas Motorplex crew, along with the Doctors and staff at Parkland Hospital.'

Thank you to Kenny Nowling who drove over an hour to the hospital at 2 a.m. to check on Jason. And special thank you to Jason's number one fan Brian Olson for his prayers and support. Thank you also to Dad, Mom, Andy, Phil, Justin, the Barklages, the Tutterows, and everyone else who came to our need.

The ADRL website received over 600 emails asking how Jason was doing, added Karen, and thanked family and friends for their prayers and concern.

Starting in Junior Dragsters at age eight, Jason Hamstra has raced for 14 years. After the Juniors, father Kevin Hamstra stepped him into a seven-second bracket dragster, and then took over the driving of his dad's Pro Outlaw dragster. In 2005 the team stepped into Pro Modified in IHRA competition and this year has concentrated in the ADRL, racing in the sanction's premier Pro Extreme class.

Any well wishes can be sent to Jason at promod@midwaynet.net
