It will be the last race of a spectacular season for SS Green Light Racing’s Drew Brannon; beginning with an impressive championship at the World Series of Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway in February and then joining forces with Butch Miller and the SS Green Light Racing team for the ASA South and ASA Challenge Series. Brannon, in 23 feature starts in 2009 has collected nine victories, 16 top-fives and 18 top-tens and added the ASA Late Models South Division title to his resume.
Heading into the final ASA Late Model Challenge Series event, Brannon is currently second in the point standings. 149 points behind Brian Campbell and leads the series with the most wins (two) this year. Brannon is 28 points ahead of Josh Hamner and is focused on maintaining his position. “I really want to win this race, but we really don’t want to take any chances to fall out of second in the points. It’s a long race so we’ll need to be smart and let the race come to us. I have a ton of confidence in Butch and he’ll make the right calls to get us to the front.”
"I can’t wait to get to the track and behind the wheel. We are bringing the same car that won the last race at Charlotte County a couple weeks back," Brannon added. "The ASI Limited Chevy cut through the corners perfectly and I could get right on the gas. I’m sure that Butch and Troy will have the car ready for this weekend.”
The season started with a victory for Brannon and Miller and the veteran Crew Chief hopes to end the season with the ASI Limited, Akzo Nobel, Spectrum Metal Finishing Chevy back in victory lane. ”2009 has been a great season. I thought we might have something special with Drew and it has turned out to be a great year. The support form the Brannon family has been overwhelming and the results show with the performance on the track. Winning this race would be just the topping on the cake for our whole team.”
“It’s a shame that the track is going to close,” said Miller who had a top-ten finish in the NCWTS at Memphis in 1999. “I have always enjoyed racinghere. It’s a great show for the fans, I hope someone can come up with a plan to keep it going.”
