MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The ASA Late Model Series is preparing for its biggest race of the 2009 season at Memphis Motorsports Park on November 7th. Not only will the champion be crowned for the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division, the ‘King of Short Track’ will also be crowned in an event that will be broadcast on a tape delay basis in prime time on December 22nd at 8 pm eastern on Fox Sports Midwest. ‘The Kings Ransom 300’ will be the final event at the Memphis Motorsports Park with the track closing down permanently after our event.

Legendary Midwest short track veteran, Steve Carlson, took home the ‘King of Short Track’ title last year at Memphis and looks to take the title back home to Wisconsin this year. However, several drivers with a southern twang hope to claim the ‘King of Short Track’ title in 2009. Drew Brannon, Josh Hamner, and Brandon Johnson have all reached victory lane in the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division this year, but they all know that a win at Memphis would be the biggest prize of the season.

2009 ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division Rookie of the Year contender, Jerick Johnson, is sponsored by the American Legion. The American Legion has been a big part of the race day festivities at every ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division race this season, and they look to have even more involvement with the ‘King’s Parade’ prior The O’Reilly’s King’s Ransom 300 presented by Suncoast Plastering. Johnson enters the race at Memphis five points behind current Rookie of the Year leader, Billy Crane.

Memphis Motorsports Park has established itself as one of the most popular and versatile racing facilities in the country. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Memphis and historic Beale Street , close to some of the Mid-South’s top attractions and landmarks, not to mention Memphis ’ world famous barbecue. The city of Memphis like the track is pure energy and pure soul. You can hear it in the clubs on Beale Street and the roar of the engines at the track.

The news of the speedway closing in 2010 takes all of us by surprise and we are very sorry for the loss of such a historic track. The ASA Late Model Series event will be the last event held at the track and we will make sure that we send her off in style.
