Monday, March 4, 2013 Lovelock Schedules a Dozen Dates for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods

LOVELOCK, Nev. -- A dozen dates for IMCA Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are on the schedule this season at Lovelock Speedway.
A test and tune session will be held March 23 with the first point race on April 13. Ten Saturday races and another on a Friday follow before championship night Sept. 28.
“We have had a sportmod class using older modified chassis since 2008 that has evolved toward the IMCA rules,” explained promoter Barbara Macedo. “There was a lot of discussion about sanctioning with IMCA, then talks with track officials at Fallon.”
Rattlesnake Raceway announced in January that it would add the division in 2013.
“The sportmod class here started as an inexpensive way for drivers to race. Some drivers said it cost less to race than a hobby stock,” Macedo said. “A lot of our younger drivers are very interested in the Northern SportMods. It’s just a good class for them to get into.”
IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds have run on the ¼-mile clay oval at Lovelock since 2008. That division will also be in action for IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Allstar Performance State and local track points, as well as Larry Shaw Racing Western Region points, on the same nights as the SportMods.
