Mercer Raceway Park
Tuesday, September 1, 2009 Mercer Announces Additional Changes to Sept 25 & 26 'Little Guy Nationals' Line-Up
by Mike LeoneMERCER, Pa. -- Earlier in the week, Mercer Raceway Park announced exciting changes to the 10th annual 'Little Guy Nationals' format to be held on Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26. In the wake of those changes, Mercer Raceway Park has made further changes, which will see the Micro Sprints and Strictly Stocks/Pure Stocks/Thundercars on Friday's program and an non-winners program for the FASTRAK Late Models on Saturday. Those divisions will replace the formerly scheduled two events for the Mod Lites.
The Micro Sprints have been part of the 'Little Guy Nationals' since 2001 with an average car count of 44 per year. The past winners' list is a 'who's who' of Micro Sprint racers with Jim Young (2001), Karlin Miller (2002), Terry Schaeffer (2003), Steve Dunmire (2004), Jay Groves (2005, 2006), Brian Kishbaugh, and Todd Reusser (2008) all victorious.
The Strictly Stocks have competed at the 'Little Guy Nationals' four times with four different winners including Robby Switzer (2004), Mitch Wattelet (2005), Dave Airgood, Jr. (2006), and Curt Bish, Sr. (2008). This year's event will allow all Strictly Stocks, Thundercars, Amateur Stocks, and Pure Stocks from regional speedways to compete including the following tracks: Tri-City, Pittsburgh, Sportsman's, Marion Center, Dog Hollow, Thunder Mountain, and Hummingbird. Cars from other speedways wishing to compete should contact the office to verify legality.
The FASTRAK Late Models will be an exciting addition to Saturday's program; however, the event will only be open to FASTRAK drivers who have not won a FASTRAK-sanctioned event in 2009 and have competed in at least one FASTRAK event prior to September 1.
To recap, the 'Little Guy Nationals' will kick off on Friday, September 25 including the following:
· Modifieds $1,000 to-win for all 358s plus big blocks (driver or car) that haven't won a big-block race in the past three seasons
· Open Stock Cars $1,000 to-win
· Plus Mini Stocks, Micro Sprints, and Strictly/Amateur/Pure Stocks/Thundercars.
· Race time is 7 p.m.
