JONESTOWN, Pa. -- The Linda's Speedway 20th Annual Micro Sprint Nationals like many other big races at area speedways has been difficult to get in the record books this season as rain continues to make racing almost impossible during the month of October. The Micro Nationals featuring the 270cc and 600cc Micro Sprints was scheduled to run on October 16 and 17 but rain put the event on hold until Friday and Saturday, October 30-31. With a chance of spotty pockets of drizzle in the forecast for Friday and a wide variety of weather reports for Saturday calling for anywhere from a 30% to 70% chance of rain the decision was made by Linda's Speedway management to try to get the 2009 Nationals underway. After several days of rain the pit area and parking lots were on the muddy side but 88 of the 270cc Micro Sprints and 70 of the 600cc Micro Sprints filled the pit area on Friday. After several rounds of hot laps it was now 270cc Micro Sprint time trials. Ross Perchak set fast time with a 12.494. After about 20 of the 270's took time a light drizzle started to fall but everything was still ok as the track stayed in good shape. Next up the 600's took time with Luke Thomas the fastest with a 12.084. As the 600's were winding down their time trials the drizzle was picking up its pace. Time trials would determine the heat race starting line ups for Saturday. After time trials the track crew continued to keep the track in shape as the 270cc Micro Sprints prepared for the 11th Annual Lias Tire/American Racer sponsored Race Of Champions. With the Champions on the track and drizzle falling the drivers all gave the thumbs up that they were ready to go.

The Race Of Champions saw 17 drivers take the green flag and very quickly Ross Perchak who drew the #2 starting position put the Perchak Trucking #4 out in front and that was all it took as he easily won the 20 lap event and the $600 that went to the winner. Perchak was the 2009 track champion at the Kutztown Fairgrounds Speedway. Matt Nulph the Sportsman Speedway track champion finished second with Linda's Speedway track champion, Mike Rutherford coming home third. Sean Stolz the Greenwood Valley Speedway track champion was fourth followed by Mike Himes the Deerfield Raceway 2009 track champion.

So despite less than idea conditions the Friday night show and day 1 of the 2009 Micro Sprint Nationals was complete. The light rain and drizzle continued most of Friday night after the racing action was completed and when daylight came on Saturday morning the pit area and parking lots were now as bad if not worse than they were on Friday but at least the rain stopped. Track crews went to work and by 4:00 the schedule time for hot laps the 270's were called to the staging area as the track was ready to go to start day 2 of the Micro Sprint Nationals. After a few cars made their way to the staging area the rain began to fall. Track crews again were back on the speedway to try to keep the track race ready. After 30 minutes the rain stopped and the track crew put the finishing touches on the speedway as once again the 270's were called back to the staging area for hot laps. This time no cars made it to the staging area as the rain began again. After more than an hour of waiting for the rains to stop time was running out as it would now take at least two hours to get the track back in shape and it was still raining so the decision was made to pull the plug on the event and now the Saturday show will be held next Saturday, November 7.

This will set up a big weekend for the Linda's Speedway as we try to end the 2009 racing season. Friday, November 6 will feature the Slingshot 50 along with hot laps sessions for any type Micro Sprint. The Slingshots will go in time trials, heat races and a 50 lap feature paying $1000 to win if a minimum of 40 cars. In between Slingshot events the Micro Sprints will get several rounds of hot laps sessions. Saturday, November 7 will feature the Micro Sprint Nationals (Day 2) with eight 270cc heat races and 6 heat races for the 600's followed by E,D,C,B Mains for the 270's and D,C,B Mains for the 600s and then it is Micro Sprint National Open time as each class will go in a 40 lap "A" main paying $3000 to win. The heat race line ups are set but if a driver wishes to take part who was not there on Friday for time trials they must pay the race day car entry of $105 and must start last in a heat race..To wrap up the big weekend and the 2009 season the rained out 600cc Micro Sprint feature from October 9 will take place with 2 laps down and 23 laps to go with Arron Spahr the leader over Ryan Smith, Kenny Harris III, Brock Zearfoss and Terry Schaeffer.

Adult grandstand admission each night remains at $6 with children age 6-12 only $3.For more information please visit lindaspeedway.com
